Five people, including three adults and two children, died during a fire at a three-storey building in the Johannesburg central business district on Saturday, 27 June 2026. The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) responded to the blaze at the privately-owned Quality Springs Building shortly before midday.
Emergency Response and Official Investigation
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the structure engulfed in flames. Speaking at the scene, City of Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Kagiso Phasha confirmed the recovery of the victims.
Despite the swift response and extensive rescue efforts by emergency personnel, three adults and two children were tragically discovered deceased inside the building.
The fire has since been extinguished, and the site has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for a forensic investigation into the cause of the blaze. Authorities have cleared the area to allow for the completion of the scene assessment.
