Cyber Attack Disrupts AVBOB Funeral Services’ Digital Platforms

AVBOB Funeral Services has confirmed that a cyber attack has disrupted its digital platforms and services as of June 8, 2026. External malicious actors are believed to be behind this incident, prompting the company’s technical teams and specialist partners to work tirelessly on restoring full functionality.

Operational Response to Cyber Attack

Despite the disruption, all AVBOB branches nationwide remain operational, assisting clients through manual processes for payments, claims registration, and funeral arrangements. Clients experiencing technical difficulties can still pay premiums online using a secure link provided by AVBOB.

Investigation and Client Assurance

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the breach, including whether any personal information has been compromised. General Manager of Corporate Affairs at AVBOB, Adriaan Bester, reassured clients that policyholders would not be negatively affected by payment delays during this disruption.

“Clients who may experience delays in making payments during this period will not be negatively affected. Policyholders will not be prejudiced as a result of this temporary disruption,” said Bester.

AVBOB has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and is committed to restoring all systems as soon as possible. The firm recognises the importance of their services during this challenging time and is working diligently towards normal operations.
