Couple Found Buried in Boksburg Shallow Grave Families Demand No Bail

Two men appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on 2 September 2026, facing murder, kidnapping, assault, and defeating the ends of justice charges after the bodies of Yudistan Pillay, 25, and Jessica Rabe, 20, were found partially buried at a property in Van Dyk Park, Boksburg. Haroon Rashid Adam, 27, and Wessel Hendrick Swart, 27, both of Van Dyk Park, had their bail opposed, according to NPA communications officer Magaboke Mohlatlole.

The couple was reported missing to Dawn Park SAPS on 27 July 2026, as confirmed by Wendy Pascoe of Pascoe Investigations and Missing in Southern Africa, cited by the Boksburg Advertiser on 31 August. SAPS Gauteng spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said Dawn Park police followed up on information about two missing people and launched a search and recovery operation in the Van Dyk Park area at about 18:00 on 30 August 2026.

The Boksburg Advertiser, which had reporters on the scene, reported that information received on 28 August 2026 triggered the full-scale SAPS search. The bodies were found partially buried in the yard of a property on Wildevy Crescent and taken to a government mortuary for identification and further investigation. IOL’s The Post, first reporting the court appearance on 3 September, confirmed the bodies were wrapped in plastic.

The case has drawn attention to South Africa’s ongoing struggle with missing persons and violent crime. According to SAPS data, thousands of people are reported missing annually, and many cases remain unresolved for weeks or months. The six-week gap between the couple’s disappearance and the discovery of their remains underscores the challenges facing both police and private investigators in tracing missing adults.

There must be no bail. Whoever is responsible for their deaths must pay for what they did.

Wesley Pillay, Yudistan Pillay’s elder brother, spoke to IOL outside the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on 2 September. Jessica Rabe’s mother, Aisha Laher, told the same outlet: They are dangerous.

We have so many questions and just hope we will get answers as to what exactly happened to them, and why. This is not the right way for any person to go.

Linda du Plessis, Jessica Rabe’s aunt and family spokesperson, told Briefly.co.za that an autopsy result was still awaited. Laher described her daughter as her only princess and called for justice.

Colonel Nevhuhulwi told the Boksburg Advertiser that the scene was no longer active and no further security measures were required. The Boksburg Advertiser initially reported three suspects had been arrested, though court records confirmed only two men — Adam and Swart — faced charges at the 2 September appearance. The NPA has indicated further arrests remain possible.

Some details remain unconfirmed. The claim that the bodies were buried under the foundations of the house appears only in the Boksburg Advertiser’s reporting and has not been independently verified by a second source. The exact corner location of Wildevy Crescent and Mimosa Street, cited by Briefly.co.za, has not been confirmed by police or court documents. Anonymous neighbour comments about hearing digging and the current occupants being unfamiliar have not been verified.

It remains unknown whether the accused knew the victims, what the autopsy results will show, and whether additional suspects will be charged. Cape Flats News journalist Nadia Davids will check with the NPA on the next court date and autopsy findings by 9 September 2026.
