Corrine Jackson Murder Trial Faces Further Delays

Corrine Jackson continues to face trial in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court for the 2017 murder of her then-girlfriend, Nadine Esterhuizen, following a trend of proceedings that have now spanned approximately nine years. During a recent appearance, Jackson revealed she is attempting to raise funds for private legal representation rather than pursuing assistance through Legal Aid, a decision that has triggered fresh concerns regarding the further postponement of the case.

Legal Hurdles And Judicial Frustration

The prolonged nature of the trial has become a point of contention for both the State and community observers who are monitoring the court proceedings. In November 2025, the court issued an instruction that no further delays would be accepted after previous issues involving legal fees were raised by Jackson’s former attorney, Asghar Mia.

“We are extremely unhappy that the delays are mostly caused by the accused because whenever the case seems to get to the end, she decides to change her defence. We urgently request the court to take this into consideration and not grant any more postponements,” said Linda Jones, a representative of the Mitchells Plain Resident’s Association and member of the court watch group.

The victim, Nadine Esterhuizen, was murdered in Colorado Park, Mitchells Plain, in September 2017. Despite the passage of years, the case remains unresolved as the accused continues to change her defence strategy, leading to repeated interruptions in the judicial process.

Community Impact And The Path Forward

The frequent changes in legal counsel have hindered the progress of the trial and intensified the distress of the victim’s family. While defendants maintain the right to legal representation, court officials and community members argue that these recurring administrative delays undermine the principles of a fair and speedy trial for the victim’s justice.

The court is expected to review the status of Jackson’s legal representation at the upcoming hearing to determine if the trial can proceed without further disruption. Judicial authorities are currently under mounting pressure to conclude proceedings that have left the local community awaiting a final verdict for nearly a decade.
