Build One South Africa nominates Nongelo Chiume as Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate

Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader Mmusi Maimane has officially nominated Nongelo Chiume as the party’s mayoral candidate for the City of Ekurhuleni. The announcement was made during an event in the municipality on 10 July 2026, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming local government electoral cycle.

Political Background And Party Strategy

Chiume is a former member of the African National Congress (ANC) who transitioned to BOSA to pursue a new political platform. The move to recruit candidates with experience in larger, established parties is a recognised strategy for opposition groups aiming to navigate the complexities of municipal governance.

We are presenting a candidate who understands the struggles of the people of Ekurhuleni, someone who is committed to service delivery and transparency, said Mmusi Maimane during the announcement.

Addressing Municipal Instability

Ekurhuleni has faced persistent political volatility in recent years, with frequent shifts in coalition governance impacting service delivery across the metro. Chiume expressed a commitment to resolving these structural challenges following her nomination.

I am honoured to accept this nomination and I am ready to work with the people of Ekurhuleni to fix the broken systems and restore dignity to our communities, Chiume stated.

The party expects its campaign to focus on practical administration and accountability as it challenges established political players for control of the metro. Further details regarding the party’s manifesto and specific policy interventions for the municipality are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
