ActionSA leader Makashule Gana has formally requested President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene in the growing operational tensions between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD). The request follows reports of recurring clashes between officials on the ground, which critics argue are undermining public safety and impeding effective crime-fighting initiatives.

Gana maintains that the friction between national and municipal law enforcement agencies allows criminal elements to operate with minimal interference. He highlighted that the primary objective of these services should involve collaborative protection of citizens rather than internal jurisdictional power struggles.
The mandate of the police and metro police is to serve and protect the residents of this country, not to engage in turf wars that threaten the very people they are meant to assist.
Echoing these concerns in further statements, Gana emphasised that the current lack of cooperation creates a dangerous environment for both officers and the public. He stated: “We cannot have a situation where our law enforcement agencies are at odds with each other while criminals continue to operate with impunity.”
