Updating Your Phone Number for SASSA’s R350 Grant: A Step-by-Step Guide

Updating Your Phone Number for SASSA’s R350 Grant

SASSA, the South African Social Security Agency, communicates important information regarding payment dates and SRD (Social Relief of Distress) grant status updates via phone and email. For beneficiaries who may have recently changed their phone numbers or lost their SIM cards, it’s essential to update these details in the R350 SRD grant application as soon as possible.

Updating your contact information will ensure that you continue receiving crucial information, particularly the One-Time Pin (OTP) codes necessary for identity verification. If you’re experiencing issues with OTP codes not being delivered, updating your phone number might resolve these problems.

Here are two methods to update your phone number with SASSA:

Method 1: Changing Your Phone Number Without an Application ID
If you don’t have an application ID readily available, the first step involves retrieving it from SASSA’s website.

Visit the SASSA application status page.
Enter your 13-digit South African ID number.
In the next field, input the phone number originally used for your application.
Once submitted, you will receive your application ID.
With the application ID in hand, you can proceed with updating your phone number using the following method.

Method 2: Changing Your Phone Number With an Application ID
If you already have your application ID, you can begin the process of updating your phone number by following these steps:

Go to the government details change page on SASSA’s website.

Enter your 13-digit South African ID number in the first field.

In the following field, provide your application ID.

Click on Submit and verify your details.

At this point, you would need to verify your email.

In the next dialog box, select your reason for requesting a change of phone number with SASSA.

Enter your new phone number and click Get OTP.

An OTP code will be sent to your new number. Verify the OTP to confirm the change.

Once verification is complete, your phone number will be successfully updated.

It’s important to note that any reapplication for the SRD grant or any updates to your personal details will require phone verification via an OTP. The OTP is a one-time password delivered via SMS, which confirms your identity and authorizes the change.

By following these steps, you can ensure uninterrupted access to SASSA’s communications, especially if you’re seeking to reapply or need to update your details for the SRD R350 grant in 2024.
