How to Send Money using Capitec Send Cash

In an era where convenience is key, Capitec is offering a streamlined method for sending and receiving cash across South Africa. This service is designed to be accessible and easy to use, catering to those without a bank account. However, it’s important to note a significant upcoming change: from 1 April 2023, collections from Game, Makro, or Builders Warehouse branches will no longer be supported for cash sent via the app, online banking, or USSD code *120*3279#.

Sending Cash Made Easy

Via the Capitec App:

  • Navigate to ‘Transact’ and select the option to send cash.
  • Choose the account from which to send money.
  • Enter the desired amount and create a 4-digit secret code.
  • After accepting the terms and conditions, confirm the transaction.
  • Share the reference number and secret code with the recipient through separate messages.

Via Internet Banking:

  • Log in and navigate to the payments menu.
  • Select ‘Send Cash’ and continue with the process.
  • After entering the amount and creating a secret code, send the cash and approve the transaction via the Capitec app.

Viewing Transaction History:

  • Access this through the ‘Send Cash’ option under the payments menu in internet banking.

Updating the Secret Code for Unredeemed Vouchers:

  • Within the ‘Send Cash’ history, select the unredeemed voucher and update the secret code, following the prompts to finalize the change.

Using USSD:

  • Dial *120*3279# and reply 9, accept the terms, and follow the prompts to send cash, including creating a secret code and entering your Mobile Banking PIN.

How much does it cost?

  • To send R40 – R1 000: R9.50 on our app, Internet banking or *120*3279#
  • To send R1 010 – R3 000: R16 on our app or Internet banking
  • Collecting the cash is free at PEP, PEP HOME, PEP CELL, Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Game, Pick n Pay, Boxer or Capitec ATM

  • You can send up to R1 000 per transaction
  • The daily limit is R1 000 and you can send up to R24 990 cash per month

App and Internet banking

  • You can send up to R3 000 per transaction
  • The daily limit is R5 000 and you can send up to R24 990 cash per month

What you need to collect your cash

  • The reference number (this is sent by SMS to the sender)
  • The 4-digit secret code

How to collect your cash

  1. Visit any PEP, PEP HOME, PEP CELL, Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Game, Pick n Pay, Boxer or Capitec ATM near you
  2. When collecting in one of the partner stores, tell the teller that you have a cash transfer from a Capitec client
  3. The teller will then ask for the reference number
  4. You’ll be asked for the secret code (some retailers may ask you to confirm your name, surname, and cellphone number)
  5. Once validated, the cash will be paid to you instantly

Collecting Your Cash

To collect, visit any partner store or Capitec ATM and provide the reference number and secret code. Some retailers might request additional identification details. The process is designed for quick and instant cash payout.
