Family demands arrest after mother found fatally stabbed in Galeshewe

A family in Galeshewe, Kimberley, is demanding the swift arrest of a suspect believed to be connected to the fatal stabbing of Kerileng Matlhoko. The 31-year-old mother was found dead in a decomposing state nearly a week after her fatal stabbing, according to family members and reports.

Kerileng Matlhoko’s body was reportedly discovered three days after the murder by a local crime prevention group, though this detail has not been independently confirmed. The family states burial arrangements are delayed due to the condition of the body. Her uncle, Kabelo Matlhoko, spoke to SABC News, highlighting the impact of her death on the family and the community.

“There are three kids and very young kids that she is leaving behind,” Kabelo said. “We want the law to take its course to its fullest might because really, after our child then who else?”

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Northern Cape confirmed detectives from the Galeshewe Serious and Violent Crimes unit are investigating the case. They are actively seeking Motlogelwa George Fincan, 33, in connection with the murder. No arrest has yet been made.

SAPS has faced ongoing challenges addressing violent crime in Galeshewe, with multiple public appeals over stabbing-related murders in 2026. For example, on 21 February, a 31-year-old man was fatally stabbed in 7deLaan, Galeshewe, and the suspect fled the scene—a case that remains under investigation.

Though media reports suggest Matlhoko was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, this claim has not been independently verified by SAPS or other official channels and should be treated as unconfirmed. The exact circumstances around her death, the role of the identified suspect, and the timeline remain under investigation.

The recurring stabbing incidents in the Galeshewe area underline the broader security concerns communities face and the urgent need for effective policing.

CapeFlats.co.za will continue to monitor developments in this case as the police investigation proceeds and provide updates on any arrests or court proceedings.
