Two men killed in gang-related shooting in Strandfontein denies CPF claim

Two men were fatally shot and two others wounded in a gang-related attack just after 17:30 on Saturday, 17 October 2026, in Dinghie Circle, Old Strandfontein, police confirmed.

Lieutenant Colonel FC van Wyk said Strandfontein police responded to the scene where two men aged 33 and 44 were declared dead by medical personnel. The two other victims were rushed to separate medical facilities for treatment.

“Strandfontein police were called to the mentioned address where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies,” Lt Col van Wyk said. He added that two white VW Polos with unknown registration numbers arrived at the scene, with occupants firing on the victims before fleeing.

“The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related,” he confirmed, adding that detectives are investigating two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Following initial community claims, Strandfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Sandy Schuter denied that the location was a halfway house for parolees.

“That’s a negative, it is not a halfway house for parolees,” Schuter said. She explained that the list of parolees is released to SAPS during routine checks, and this property was never on it.

“The community is shaken and fearful, but I want to reassure residents that Strandfontein SAPS has put an operational action plan in place to stabilise the area and mitigate the risk of potential retaliation,” Schuter added.

In response to ongoing concerns about violent crime, the CPF, alongside SAPS and the Spiritual Crime Prevention initiative, invited religious leaders and community members to a prayer gathering scheduled for Tuesday at the Blou Dakke on the corner of Church and Dennegeur Streets.

This shooting adds to a recent pattern of gang-related violence in the Strandfontein, Philippi, and Schaapkraal areas. Notably, a double murder was reported in August 2025 on Strandfontein Road, while residents and local councillor Elton Jansen have been pushing for the demolition of a notorious drug den on 57 Punt Road earlier this year.

The police continue their investigation, with no arrests reported yet. The claim that the house where the shooting occurred operated as a parolee halfway home remains unverified beyond the CPF’s denial.
