North West Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Madoda Sambatha officially handed over a new tractor and a set of agricultural implements to farmers in Tigane on 21 September 2026. The equipment, which includes a boom sprayer and a disc plough, was presented to local beneficiary Ramasimane Kalaote at the Syferlaagte farming site.
This initiative is designed to support several local Communal Property Associations (CPAs), specifically the Seven Seasons, Oblate, Thusanang, and Ikageng groups. The machinery will be managed as a shared service, allowing multiple farmers to access the necessary tools for land preparation and crop maintenance without relying on expensive private contractors.
This intervention speaks directly to our commitment to uplifting rural farming communities. The tractor and implements we are handing over today are not just machinery; they are essential tools for increasing production, strengthening livelihoods and improving food security.
Speaking at the handover event, MEC Sambatha emphasised that the donation forms part of a wider provincial strategy to improve agricultural efficiency and food security. By providing these assets to communal structures, the department aims to lower barriers to entry for emerging farmers who often struggle with limited access to modern mechanisation.
Farming without the necessary implements can be difficult, but we are grateful for this support and promise that the equipment will be put to good use.
The transition to shared ownership is intended to improve the long-term sustainability of the participating CPAs. By centralising equipment, the department hopes to streamline operations such as soil tilling and fertilisation, which are critical for increasing crop yields in the region.
