Nelson Mandela Bay Unveils Dual Financial Management Internships

Two financial management internships are up for grabs at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

The roles are part of the 2026 intake in the Budget and Treasury directorate and are aimed at graduates seeking practical experience.

Internship Opportunities In Financial Management

The program is designed to give graduates hands on exposure to municipal financial management, including budgeting, reporting and policy development. It spans a three year placement with a salary cap aligned to municipal scales, and it seeks to prepare entrants for responsibilities ranging from data entry to policy analysis. Participants will gain insight into how financial information flows through departments and how decisions translate into service delivery.

Two posts are allocated under the risk and asset management specialization within the Budget and Treasury directorate. The roles are aimed at developing capacity in financial governance while offering practical experience on data capture and policy implementation. Interns will work with senior staff to support MFMA compliance, asset management procedures and the preparation of financial reports.

Eligibility And Qualifications

Applicants must present either a B Com degree or a National Diploma in Cost Accounting Finance or Auditing with accounting as a major. This foundation is intended to support work that includes financial data entry, reconciliation, and the preparation of routine statements.

Additionally, applicants should demonstrate solid computer literacy with emphasis on MS Office applications, and own a valid Code B driver license or learner licence. Experience in financial accounting related tasks is recommended, and strong written and verbal communication skills in English and another local language are desirable.

Applicants should hold a B Sc in Engineering, demonstrate MS Office literacy, possess a Code B driving licence, and have three to five years or more of relevant experience. The position carries a salary range of about R691 044 to R960 756 per year and requires strong contract and project management capabilities, with duties spanning research and the evaluation of best practices and proposals.
