Ngizwe Mchunu is facing additional legal repercussions following a defamation case stemming from his allegations against Julius Malema. Mchunu claimed that Malema received R60 million from Nigerian drug dealers, prompting Malema to initiate legal action for defamation.
On April 30, 2026, Malema’s legal team demanded a retraction and R1 million in damages from Mchunu for his statements. This legal battle led to an interim interdict issued by the Gauteng High Court on May 12, barring Mchunu from making further defamatory remarks.
Court Orders and Final Rulings
By May 19, 2026, the Pretoria High Court had finalised the defamation case, legally prohibiting Mchunu from further disparaging remarks about Malema. Despite these court orders, Mchunu continued to make accusations, resulting in a contempt of court ruling on June 5, 2026.
The court found Mchunu guilty of violating previous orders, issuing a warrant for his arrest along with a 10-day detention. However, this detention is suspended on the condition that Mchunu adheres to court requirements.
Public Apologies and Consequences
In addition to the suspended detention, Mchunu has been ordered to publish an apology on his social media platforms and submit it to the court. He is also required to record a video apology, which will be shared on the TikTok account of King Zoso.
Furthermore, he must cover the legal costs incurred by Malema’s legal team. After the arrest warrant was issued, Mchunu expressed remorse, stating, “I am remorseful,” reflecting on the serious nature of this ongoing legal battle.
