Unidentified Woman's Body Found at Kalk Bay Harbour

A sense of unease hangs over the Kalk Bay community following the unsettling discovery of a woman’s body early on Thursday morning. Authorities have since launched a formal investigation as questions swirl around the identity of the deceased and the circumstances leading to her death.

The tragic find was made by a passer-by near the green lighthouse located at the far end of the Kalk Bay Harbour pier. According to reports, the discovery took place shortly after 8am. Police have since confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened as investigations proceed.

“Muizenberg SAPS opened an inquest docket for investigation surrounding the circumstances of a body of a female in her early thirties that was discovered on the beach at Kalk Bay near the lighthouse,”

said Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie, confirming the incident.

He elaborated on the timeline of events and stressed the procedural steps ahead.

“The discovery was made by a passer-by [on Thursday] morning at about 8.20am who reported it to the police. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the possible cause of death.”

The revelation has sent ripples through the Muizenberg and Kalk Bay areas, both known for their quiet, tight-knit communities. Details, however, remain sparse as investigators continue their work.

Wayne Turner, the Communications Officer for the Muizenberg Community Policing Forum, reiterated that the South African Police Service (SAPS) is actively working to uncover the facts surrounding the incident. At this stage, much remains unknown, including the woman’s identity.

“We can confirm that SAPS was made aware of the body of a deceased person in Kalk Bay Harbour,”

Turner stated, before stressing the early phase of the inquiry.

“The incident is currently under police investigation and the cause of death, identity of the person and circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be released. Further details will be disclosed once the initial investigation by SAPS has been completed.”

Despite the ongoing investigation, the matter has already drawn attention from locals and visitors alike. While speculation is rife, authorities have urged the public not to jump to conclusions until all facts are verified.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant-Colonel Pojie made a public appeal for assistance from anyone who might hold crucial information.

“Anyone with any information regarding the discovery is urged to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111,”

he said, emphasising the importance of community cooperation.

As the investigation unfolds, residents remain hopeful that answers will soon emerge to bring clarity to this troubling discovery. Police have not disclosed any potential leads or motives as they await the results of the autopsy, which may provide vital insights into the cause of death.

The identity of the woman, as well as the events that led to her presence at the harbour, remain a mystery for now. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain calm and patient as the investigation progresses.
