She was released just as members of the Pakistani and local community were preparing to hold an awareness march outside her school on Wednesday morning.
Zaheer Iqbal, the general secretary of the Pakistan South Africa Association in East London, expressed gratitude for the collective efforts that contributed to Emaan Fatima’s safe return.
“Thanks so much to all communities, Emaan Fatima has returned back home safely on Wednesday morning. We appreciate your efforts, you stood up in unity for the return of the young girl. Thank God!”
Iqbal further revealed that Emaan was released after her parents paid a ransom. He also highlighted that this was not an isolated incident, as other children had previously fallen victim to kidnappings.
A nine-year-old girl, Emaan Fatima, was kidnapped on 4 February 2025 near Dreamland Primary School in Buffalo Flats, East London, in the Eastern Cape. At the time of her abduction, she was dressed in her school uniform.

According to reports, Emaan and her brother were near the school when a silver-grey Toyota Corolla, which had no number plates, stopped near them. Two unidentified men forcibly seized Emaan and sped away in the vehicle, leaving her brother behind. The kidnapping took place in the presence of other pupils who witnessed the distressing scene.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Emaan’s whereabouts or the suspects involved to come forward.

Lieutenant-Colonel Avele Fumba, spokesperson for the Hawks in Eastern Cape, said: “I can confirm that a case of kidnapping is being investigated. At present, our priority is to ensure the safety of the victim.”
Police investigations are ongoing, and the public has been encouraged to remain vigilant. The community remains in shock following the incident, with concerns growing for the young girl’s safety.
